Quests and blocking
How do I block apps during a quest?
On the map, tap "Leave apps behind (optional)". The first time, iOS asks you to allow Screen Time access for Farstep; allow it, then pick the apps in Apple's picker and tap Done. Those apps stay blocked from the moment you set out until the quest ends.
Why does Farstep need Screen Time access?
Blocking on iPhone is done by Apple's Screen Time. Farstep asks for access for you only (not as parental control). iOS never tells Farstep which apps you chose: it hands over opaque tokens that only iOS can read, and those never leave your iPhone.
A blocked app still opens.
Check that Screen Time access is still on: Settings › Screen Time › Apps with Screen Time Access should list Farstep as allowed. If you turned it off, Farstep asks again the next time you bind apps.
How do I end a quest early?
Open Farstep and tap "turn back..." at the bottom of the walk, then confirm. The block lifts at once. A quest you turn back from is not drawn on the map, and on the free plan it still uses the day's quest.
What if I close Farstep during a quest?
The quest goes on. The block holds even if you force-quit the app, and it lifts by itself when the time is up. That is also why the shortest quest is 25 minutes: iOS needs at least 15 minutes to schedule the end of the block.
The quest does not show on the Lock Screen.
Live Activities need iOS 16.2 or later. Make sure they are on in Settings › Farstep › Live Activities and in Settings › Face ID & Passcode › Allow Access When Locked › Live Activities.
The walk, music and sounds
How do I turn the music or the sounds off?
During the walk, tap the round button in the top right corner. Music and the sounds of the land (footsteps, wind, birds) switch on and off separately, and Farstep remembers your choice.
Does the music keep playing with the screen locked?
Yes. Music and sounds carry on with the iPhone locked, and stop when the quest ends or you turn back.
Does the walk drain the battery?
While the walk is open, Farstep keeps the screen from locking so you can follow along. To save battery, lock the iPhone: the quest, the block and the music carry on.
The map and your progress
Where is my progress stored?
Your map, quests, places found and the Flame are stored only on your iPhone. There is no account and no sync. Deleting Farstep deletes them.
How does the Flame work?
The Flame counts the days in a row with at least one completed quest. Miss a day and it falls to embers; complete a quest the next day and it burns on. Miss a second day and it goes out.
The Hero's Oath
What does the free plan include?
One quest a day, up to an hour, blocking up to three apps. The map, every discovery, the soundtrack and the Flame are included. The Hero's Oath adds as many quests a day as you like, the two-hour quest, more than three apps, websites and whole app categories.
How do I restore my subscription?
Open the Hero's Oath screen in Farstep and tap "Restore purchases". Use the same Apple Account you subscribed with.
How do I cancel?
Go to Settings › [your name] › Subscriptions › Farstep and tap Cancel Subscription. Cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends to avoid the next charge. If you are in the free trial, cancelling before it ends means you are not charged.
Can I get a refund?
Purchases go through Apple, so refunds are handled by Apple. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
